Your Next Jimmy Scott's High & Tight Monday Morning Interview: Craig Paquette, Part 1
"My dear Jimmy," you write to me, the feather in your plume making your nose twitch, "are you insinuating by the title of this post that you did a two-part interview with Craig Paquette?"
I have an answer for that.
"It really is two parts?" you respond just before sneezing.
Yes.
"How on earth, Jaime, can a guy like Craig Paquette be worth that much time?"
Bless you. (Another sneeze.) With all due respect, and I've said this many times before, it's the guys like Craig Paquette who you want to hear. What is it about an MVP or Cy Young Award, about a batting championship or a 5-year, $75 million contract that suddenly makes those people interesting? Now Jason Giambi, he's had things to say. You can listen to an interview with him all day long. But Joe Mauer? Albert Pujols? They can play on my team anytime; I'm just not sure I'd ask them to be the entertainment at my 2nd wedding (assuming my wife leaves me for the pool guy one day in the near future).
Now Craig Paquette... Wait until you hear him. He's got nothing to lose. He doesn't need to hold back because of an agent or a manager or a GM who's all worried about "image" or future endorsement values. Sure, Craig wants to keep earning a living (he works with a product called Zrii, something you learn a little about when he speaks to you through me, your cool ballplayer interpreter). But Craig is also interested in telling his story, which spanned parts of 11 Major League seasons and included 99 home runs & a stint on the 2003 Detroit Tigers - the 2nd worst team (119 losses) of all-time.
I won't get specific with you. But I will say that if you take a liking to baseball players who tell stories about The Game that you've never heard, then you're gonna want to come back on Monday and hear Part 1 of my exclusive two-part interview with the amazing and provocative and interesting Craig Paquette. Deal? Good.
