Rumors
This is the best time of year for rumors, which, at this time of year in baseball, are incredibly made up stories that are printed and re-printed (or should I say published and re-published) by hungry bloggers and journalists eager to fill the 24-hour pipeline of wanted baseball information (I say 24 hours because it's 12:24 in the AM timeframe, for those of you keeping score at home).
I have some rumors of my own that I'd like to start. These are completely made up. There is no credence to them whatsoever. I'm sure they're real then, right?
Rumor #1
Manny Ramirez and his agent, Scott Boras, already have a handshake deal with the Texas Rangers for a 4-year, $98 million deal. On days when Manny has a sore knee, he'll pitch since nobody else on that team will.
Rumor #2
Wanting to stay close to home, C.C. Sabathia will break ground on November 2nd on a new 5000 square foot loft in Westchester, NY, three days before signing a record 8-year, $170 deal with the Yankees.
Rumor #3
Barry Bonds, though his agent, will sue MLB for collusion. A judge will dismiss the case on the grounds that nobody cares anymore.
Rumor #4
Ken Griffey Jr. will retroactively accept the 1999 off season trade that would have sent him to the Mets from Seattle in exchange for Armando Benitez and someone else I forget. Since none ot the executives or players who were potentially involved are still with the Mariners and Mets, Bud Selig will approve the deal.
Rumor #5
Bud Selig will accept another 8-year extension on his reign as mighty Commission of MLB. All of his extensions will now add up to 35 years to life. His lawyer will get him off for good behavior in 20.
