Upcoming Jimmy Scott Interviews: Gabrielle Schoeneweis & Steve Fortunato
I've got two interviews coming up that you should be aware of. Why? Don't know. Because they're good for you. Because they're part of this nutritious breakfast. Because you and I have an arrangement. You sit there and read and listen and I sit here and give you straight talk. From the Jimmy Scott Straight Talk Express. I'm the Blog Maverick. The Baseball Maverick. I'm a maverick's maverick. And I'm doing it all for you. Oh, and for entertainment purposes only. Don't try this at home. Unless you have your parents' permission. Or a lifeguard is present. Or you're in the Green Zone.
Remind me to come back to that.
So two interviews. The first is with the wife of Mets lefty pitcher Scott Schoeneweis. I was going to say "with Scott Schoeneweis's wife," but was unsure if "Schoeneweis's", the possessive, was spelled like that or like this: "Schoeneweis'." Thus, I changed the whole structure of the sentence to hide my mental shortcomings. Anyway, Gabrielle is the name of the spouse of the man some call Mr. Schoeneweis, he of the easily-spelled last name. She's a great personalitiy and I think you're really going to like her. We're talking The Real Wives of Major League Baseball here, so come back on Monday to listen to Gabrielle, who used to be an actress and a model and just birthed her and Scott's fourth child. Fourth. That's twice as many as I have. God bless her.
Interview Numero Dos - You saw it in the headline of this post. Steve Fortunato. Great guy. Smart. A veteran. Worked his way up from a production dude for MLB Productions to handling all marketing duties for Scott Boras. Went out on his own (Steve, not Scott, who's been on his own for quite some time) and formed Fortch Unlimited, Inc. It's a marketing and management company. Steve is also my agent. Yes, you got that right. Steve Fortunato is Jimmy Scott's agent. And we're going to talk about what he's doing for me and what he's done for A-Rod and Ken Griffey Jr. and other big stars of baseball. You'll want to hear that one because you'll be a better person for it. I promise. I really, really do. And for me. I've got a golden throat, as you know, so you want to hear me skewer these people with intense, hard-hitting questions like, "How are you today?" Yeah, I'm not afraid to be tough. You should have no fear as well. Why? Because we're in this together. You are my fans. I am your (fill in the blank here). We have a great relationship. Don't blow it. Leave that to me.
The Green Zone. I didn't forget. We have a Green Zone in Iraq because of 9/11. That's the day that changed our world. I'm not going to preach or anything. The Green Zone comment that fell out of my head and onto this page reminded me of where I went yesterday: Ground Zero. I was in 7 World Trade Center yesterday, the 36th floor, to meet with some people about some stuff. In the lobby of this building where I was to meet with some people about some stuff, they had a huge wall that was a window. Looking down, I could see straight into the pit that we today call Ground Zero. I call it a "pit" not out of disrespect. Because that's
what it is. Another guy standing at the wall of window looking down agreed. "There's a lot of dirt there," one of us said. Two big yellow Caterpillar digger machine crane things (you can see I don't know what to call them, just look at the picture and say, "Oh. Dufus.") took turns digging in the pit. Otherwise, not a lot of action going on. Over 7 years later and there's not a lot going on at Ground Zero. Just a lot of dirt. To me, that is disrespect.
My political diatribe is over. I'm asking you to listen to the upcoming interviews and go back to the old ones. We're collecting baseball history here. We're breaking new ground here. You know anybody else talking to baseball wives and retired players and making The Baseball Life, from inside the dugout and inside our Baseball Homes, available to you? It's all about perspective. And Gabrielle Schoeneweis and Steve Fortunato have perspective. You're going to like to hear what they have to say to you.
Good day.
