Who Says Ty Cobb Is Dead?
I say he's alive and well and living in a theater near you. Nope, I'm not talking about the 1994 movie, Cobb, that starred Robert Wuhl and Tommy Lee Jones. I'm talking about "Ty Cobb: The Greatest Player That Ever Played The Game" starring Norm Coleman.
"Jimmy," you say, putting down your newspaper and glasses and scratching yourself in the itchy spot, "Norm Coleman's in a real battle with Al Franken to become senator of the great state of Minnesota."
"Wrong Norm," I volley in reply, watching you scratch and cringing. "This Norm Coleman is an actor (the word said with a European accent). This Norm Coleman started a one-man show featuring a cast of... one. This Norm Coleman has a southern accent and a goatee. Does your Norm Coleman have those things?"
You hang your head and wonder, What about this Ty Cobb show?
Rather than go on & on, I think I'll let Norm himself tell you about himself and the show:

"Jimmy:
"Just read your piece on why ballplayers hang around longer than they should. Koufax was my hero as a kid. He quit on TOP....of course he accepted his body quitting on him. W. Mays also my hero..hung around to long.
"I always wanted to become a ballplayer and did so at the age of 70! Well, not exactly. I became an actor (after a 35 year career as professional photographer) I created a one man show about the "greatest" player that ever played the game. The show is called:
TY COBB - "The Greatest Player That Ever Played the Game"
"Have performed over 250 shows including Lakeland, Fl with the Detroit Tigers, the Ty Cobb Museum and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids. Who says you can't make your dreams come true...even at 70. SABR wants me in Atlanta in 2010 for their national convention. (See my web page)
"Enjoy your writting. Cobb retired in 1928 after 23 years. His final year he hit 323. He was disgusted with that puny average (lifetime 367) and told Connie Mack 'If a man can't hit better than 323, he should hang up his spikes and bat.'
"Best wishes, Norm"

Think this is worth your time? Take a look at Norm's performance and judge for yourself. I say Mr. Cobb may not be with us anymore in body, but he's still alive in Norm. Great job, Norm! Thanks for letting me know all about this.
