Making Fans Angry & The Greatness Of Doug Glanville
Two quickies for you. First, there's a new Op-Ed piece, Measures Of Success, in the New York Times today by Doug Glanville, formerly of the Phillies, Rangers, Cubs. Doug was also interviewed for Jimmy Scott's High & Tight recently, which you can hear HERE. He talks about his writing for the Times, plus a book he's working on. I've spoken to Curt Schilling, Wayne Gomes, Desi Relaford, all former teammates of Doug's. Each has nothing but wonderful things to say about the man. So congratulations Doug for another great piece of writing that you can share with many millions of people and that's actually very good.
And speaking about sharing with many millions, feel free to click on over to Dugout Central today. They just posted my article from the other day, Byrd, Clemens, Schilling: To Play Half An MLB Season Or Not To Play. You know how I've written about the folks who pretty much hate Jason Grilli? Well, there are a bunch of similar folks over at Dugout Central who hate Jimmy Scott. It becomes a game to me reading the comments on the stuff of mine they post. This one should be especially fiesty, since I'm giving a player's point of view for taking half a season off. Fans don't like it when players don't agree with them. They get kind of defensive and have difficulty putting themselves into the shoes of a player. It's money, money, money all the time. If you earn millions, you are, in the fans' minds (all right, not all, but a whole lotta them) you are immune to any problems because of the millions you've made. There is no pity for the millionaire.
Just remember. Next time you feel bad for Jennifer Anniston because of all the coverage she gets, remember, she's filthy rich too.
Now will you change your tune?
