A Professional Woman Pitcher Who's A Girl & Loves Jimmy Scott's High & Tight
So, I get this email from a fan the other day. Her name is Jennifer Liu and she tells me how she loves the book A Glove of Their Own and how she started reading my wonderful prose on Jimmy Scott's High & Tight and how she's a pitcher.
Huh?
There's no crying in baseball. There's also no girls.
Au contraire, mofo!
You see, there's a league in Chicago (they have a new governor in that state, not sure if you heard) that is called the Chicago Women's Baseball League. Jennifer is in it. She's a pitcher. She's good. I'm assuming she's good because she said she was. Why would Jennifer Liu, my fan, lie to me?
"Jimmy," you're saying out loud to your computer screen, "she wouldn't."
I agree.
Wanna know a little bit more about her? I'm filling you in because she's what you call a well-rounded gal. This is very interestng, so don't blow this off. Here:
"I am a baseball player. I hope one day soon to play professionally. I currently play in the Chicago Women's Baseball League and compete nationally and internationally with teams from around the country. I've been pitching since I was nine years old, and I have to say, it's my favorite thing to do aside from performing. I've been in numerous plays, commercials, films, and live industrials. I wrote and performed for twelve years with the Asian American sketch comedy/improv troupe, Stir-Friday Night! I was also the Executive Artistic Director. I also perform and teach for The Second City."
Jennifer, whom I now officially call J-Lady-J for no real reason that any of us will ever know, writes a blog called Jen's Baseball Blog. (I think she should call it J-Lady-J's Baseball Blog. don't you think my title adds more fire? Don't you think my title is better than hers? In a 500-word essay, discuss.) Anypoop, J-Lady-J's trying to raise money to go to Hong Kong in February to play baseball, a sport she and I both like lots. I'm re-printing this post by here splaining everything:
Going to Hong Kong!
Thanks to family and friends, I am now $2,730 away from my goal, yipes! Guess I have a ways to go. I'm not getting any younger, so I'm taking every opportunity I get to play ball while I still can! I put together this sponsorship packet. Please send it to everyone you know! Every dollar gets me closer to my goal. Individual donations can be made through paypal, to jliu7@sbcglobal.net.
I may have to take out a loan, but one way or another, I WILL play ball in Hong Kong!
I didn't get permission to re-post it, but I don't think J-Lady-J will be mad at me for advertising her success at being chosen to play ball in King Kong. I congratulate her publicly and, J-Lady-J, if you're reading this, tell us how it's going! Comment and give us the full scoop! We want to be with you in spirit, or Spirit Air, because we love to fly.
All we need is the money to buy a ticket to go with you.
J-Lady-J, aka Jennifer Liu, I tip my cap to you.

Great job Jennifer, good luck to you! It would be very cool to see some updates. I'll check your blog.
