Jimmy Scott's High & Tight: The Peter Golenbock Interview
There's so much to be written about a man who spends his life writing. Peter Golenbock has been at it for more than 30 years, writing some of the best books about baseball during that period, from "The Bronx Zoo" to "Forever Boys" to his new release, "George: The Poor Little Rich Boy Who Built The Yankee Empire." We talk about everything, and more, here.
But wait. There's more.
Peter is a piece of history himself. When he reveals his uncle was Jackie Robinson's lawyer, it's easy to see how he fits into the fabric of baseball history. Peter knew Billy Martin, Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson. He wrote books about and with Mickey Mantle, Sparky Lyle, Davey Johnson, Johnny Damon, the New York Mets, the New York Yankees. Since the mid-1970s, Peter has been about as intimate with baseball as humanly possible. His behind-the-scenes stories, both in his books and in his Jimmy Scott's High & Tight interview, are captivating. You don't want him to stop. You don't want the interview to end. He's got so much to give. It makes you feel fortunate that a man of his talents has been there to cover so much that has happened in the great sport of Baseball.
Now, don't think Peter is a one-game show. He released a Tony Curtis memoir last fall as well as "In The Country of Brooklyn," an oral history of one of America's largest cities. Peter has written about stock car racing and the Dallas Cowboys. While he'll probably always be remembered for all that he's written for and about the Yankees, let it be known he's a full-service author. Read his bibliography and grin. Yeah, he's that good.
Which brings us to his new book, "George...", the story of Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. There have been other books about The Boss, but none as researched as Peter's book. Listen as he explains how he wrote the book, who he spoke with, and even his discussion with Mr. Steinbrenner himself. Then go out and buy the book. Peter will even autograph it for you, if you reach out to him on Facebook and mail it down to his home in Florida.
So start eating from your TV dinner and start listening to a fascinating interivew with a fascinating author. It's Peter Golenbock on Jimmy Scott's High & Tight.
