BOREDOM & BLOGGING
By Joe Hubert
Rehabbing for Jimmy Scott has been a slow process since his April Tommy John surgery. And now we know why. “I’m depressed,” Scott wrote yesterday on his new blog,
High & Tight With Jimmy Scott. “I nap a lot now. And eat.”
Scott’s blog, according to the pitcher, “should help me come out of this funk. I’m overeating and going bald and have nothing good to say about myself.” He spoke on the phone last evening. A piece of cake, “chocolate with chocolate frosting,” he said, was being chewed in between sentences. “Why not share my depression with the rest of the world? The worst that could happen would be what, I’d embarrass myself?”
New New York manager Rick Churches refused to comment about Scott’s blog, saying, “It’s a travesty. Put down the pen and pick up a ball.”
“Does he know what a blog is?” Scott asked in response. “The last time I picked up a pen, it was to sign a contract extension.”
In fact, contract woes between Scott and New York have been bubbling about since last summer. His admission to poor rehabilitation habits will certainly add more fuel to the fire. (turn page)
