Background Music & Baseball Digest Live!

By Jimmy Scott - Posted on 10 July 2009

My second commentary for Baseball Digest Live! (not sure if I'm the one putting the "!" in or them, but I like it) will run tomorrow.  Or it will run today, depending upon if you're reading this on Thursday or Friday.  If you're reading this next week, then the show ran last week.  In 2133, the show ran on July 10, 2009.

We clear on when the show's gonna air?  Cool.

More stuff.  First, the show airs (Can radio "air" on the internet?  I guess if your connection is wireless.) from 11AM to 1PM EST.  (Don't worry, I won't get into the different time zones, stealing my comedy from the first paragraph of this endless entry).  Baseball Digest Live! is a Monday through Friday event.  I'm your Friday guy.

As part of my Friday Guy-ness, I'm doing the aforementioned commentary.  Last week it was about Brent Mayne's The Art of Catching.  If you wanna hear it, just go HERE.  This week, it will be about another book, A Glove of Their Own, which I've written about with extreme entertainment value HERE, HERE & HERE.  But it won't just be about some dumb kids' book that has accosted my emotions.  There's a tie-in to your 2016 Summer Olympics, Harry Potter and Twilight, those girlie vampire books.  (See True Blood on HBO for some really cool vampire moments.)  My commentary is not in NPR or 60 Minutes or NBC's late-John Chancellor territory yet, but maybe one day.  Give a listen and say, "I was there when..."  (Not sure how to end the sentence.  I'll let you do it on your own time.)

More and more stuff.  If you listen to my commentary, there's background music.  It's by a very cool New Jersey band callled Bern & The Brights.  Here's a video for the song you hear, which is called "China."  After the video, keep reading 'cause there's more.

You watch it?  Bern, the lead singer, is an incredibly talented bluesy guitarist who rocks and rolls and sings with a swagger of emotion that, to me, puts her in Janis Joplin territory (just not as crazy).  If you've ever heard Melissa Etheridge's first album (her only real "Rock" album), Bern's got that passion too.   The intro also reminds me of Heart's "Crazy On You."

Enough dissection.  Bern's a human, not a frog.  I don't even know if she likes reptiles.  The band has some gigs coming up.  I'm now going to post an email from the band.  If you like Bern & The Brights, you become part of their Light Brigade.  Wanna be a member?  Just sign up here on their MySpace site:

So, here's their email.  Think about this, huh?
