Jimmy Scott's High & Tight: The Rene Taubensee Interview
If you have interest in the life of a baseball wife, in the marriage of a baseball couple, then this is a place to be. Rene Taubensee, the wife of ex-MLB catcher Eddie Taubensee, adds to the stories and information collected here about the lifestyle of the baseball wife. From the weekly column by Real Baseball Wife Cassidy Dover to interviews with Tisha DeShields, Donna Candiotti, Alison Mahay, Alisa Figueroa, Kym Byrd, the late Gabrielle Schoeneweis and now Rene Taubensee, you've heard first-hand about the "the better half" of a baseball marriage. (Read HERE, in Rene's own words, about the positive aspects of a baseball marriage.)
In Jimmy Scott's High & Tight Rene Taubensee Interview, we get a different take on marriage in baseball, from how her faith led her to sign she & Eddie up for a conference led by an organization called Professional Athletes Outreach to, at the end of Eddie's career, formal roles with the organization that helps athletes and their families cope with all that goes on in a pro athlete's life. But wait. There's more!
Part I
Rene starts at the beginning and tells us how she & Eddie met (he had one of his coaches ask her out for him). She talks about adjusting to The Baseball Life and the stereotypes and realities of life as a baseball wife. She also tells us about how and why she found her personal relationship with God and what Baseball Chapel does in MLB.
Part II 27:00
Here, Rene explains what the Pro Athletes Outreach (PAO) does and her & Eddie's roles as Baseball Ambassadors. She talks about the counseling they do and what the biggest issues in baseball marriages are today.
Part III 41:00
At Jimmy Scott's High & Tight, we've talked a lot about the transition post-baseball career for players and wives. Our new best friend Rene adds her thoughts.
Part IV 50:30
The culture of a baseball marriage: Rene puts into context baseball marriages and the specific culture they are a part of.
You may be thinking, "Wow, Jimmy Scott, Part I is 27 minutes long! An MTV video is only 3!" My response is this: "MTV doesn't play videos anymore. Now stop complaining that you only have two minutes here or three minutes there to yourself. That's okay. Listen at your leisure. Start and come back. We love you and encourage you to feel the massive bear hug that is Jimmy Scott's High & Tight." And if that doesn't make you feel better, Part IV is only about five minutes long. See? It all evens out in the end.
So get yourself some needlepoint or a notebook or a very tall mirror and listen to the sounds of Rene Taubensee, the baseball wife who is so much more than just a baseball wife. She'd really appreciate your time.
