On Brian Boehringer, Firing His Agent, And Follow-Up

By Jimmy Scott - Posted on 19 November 2008

After originally posting about my conversation with former Yankees, Giants, Padres, & Pirates pitcher Brian Boehringer and how Brian talked about the firing of his former agent, Bob Garber of RMG Sports Management, I felt it important to reach out to Mr. Garber and get his reaction.  That's only fair, right?  I mean, when I get bashed, I'd like the opportunity to at least throw one sucker punch before passing out.

I emailed Bob Garber at the address listed on his website.  It bounced back.  Looked like a dummy address, don't ask me why.  Name spelled wrong, etc.  So I utilized the same format, made the proper spellings, and sent a document over to him, letting him know what Brian said.

No response.

I called, got his voicemail.  Left a message.  Call me.  Brian said some stuff, I'm writing about it, loads of people are going to hear it.  Tell me your side of the story.

No response.

My guess?  If what Brian Boehringer said is true, not only about how he felt mistreated by Mr. Garber but also how he was looked at as low man on RMG's totem pole, then my thinking is that Bob Garber still thinks that way about Brian Boehringer.  Bob's probably saying, "Nobody's going to care.  We're talking about Brian Boehringer here.  Not Derek Jeter."  So he's blowing me off.  That's what my gut tells me.

Of course, he could just be really, really busy and call me about 2 minutes after this update.  He's an agent, after all.  It's the off season.  He's got to worry about getting free agents signed.  There's salary arbitration to be prepared for.  There's always another potential client throwing and catching and hitting a ball somewhere in the world who should be signed.  Then the phone calls.  The emails.  The IMs.  Twitter stuff.

You know what?  I think Jimmy Scott is at the bottom of Bob Garber's totem pole.
