Special Guest Writer Eric Valent
I don't think I'd ever be interested in interviewing Derek Jeter on Jimmy Scott's High & Tight. Honestly, what do you think he'd have to say? Or even want to say? He's very guarded and chooses his words so carefully. Unless he suddenly had a hidden stand-up routine that he'd perform for us, I'm not sure you'd tune in for very long.
But...
It's guys like former Phillies & Mets outfielder Eric Valent who make this part of baseball, the backstories and behind-the-scenes stuff, fun. Eric's a regular guy; a good guy who tells it like it is. Want to know all about his experiences in Japan, even if they weren't so good? He tells us. Want to know what it was like for him to basically replace former expensive Met Roger Cedeno, even though Eric came aboard as a Rule V draft pick? He spills the beans. What about steroids? What about how his career ended? What about how he interviewed for his first coaching gig? He lays it out there like wall-to-wall carpeting. Does that make sense? Not sure. But what should make sense is Eric is a guy who's a good listen. He's got the engagement factor that Jeter doesn't really have, not for longer than 5 minutes at least. Hey, Jeter may be a sure-thing Hall of Famer, but it's somebody like Eric Valent who's good for giving some stuff we otherwise wouldn't know about our favorite game, beisbol (that's Spanish for Baseball).
Click and listen to the Jimmy Scott's High & Tight: The Eric Valent Interview and get some more background on Eric. Then come back here and read the excerpts from his life. He's a good man. He's also a good writer. To that I say good for you for being here. Give yourselves a hand and then give yourselves a nice hearty dose of Philadelphia Phillies scout Enrique Valencia (Eric Valent)!
